Gentleman's kit for replacing the fuel filter on a Mercedes with an OM642 engine must include fuel hoses, air duct seals, and definitely new original clamps for these same fuel hoses. Use of non-original parts is not allowed, as Mercedes did not provide options for using low-quality spare parts in these areas; they immediately show their unsuitability. In some cases, if it concerns the clamps, they may simply fail to latch or unlatch during operation. This car came in for an oil and filter change, and subsequent several oil and filter changes were carried out as usual. No one replaced the fuel hoses, but despite the fact that the hoses are cracked, worn, and flattened, fuel leaked outward through the damaged fuel filter into the engine bay, clogging up with debris the servo actuators of the air flaps which over time wear down and begin to play loosely, throwing an error code. Fixing this is very expensive because you have to replace the intake manifolds, as correctly these linkages are changed only together with the intake manifold. And there are two of them!
